Research

The Transportation Program research tackles multiple topics, including driver and pedestrian behavior modeling, traffic flow theory and safety, connected and autonomous vehicles, vehicular energy consumption, evacuation management, and travelers’ social interactions/networks and behavior. These topics may be grouped into four broad research areas. The corresponding work is conducted in five laboratories with projects funded by different sponsors (for example: the National Science Foundation, District of Columbia Department of Transportation -DDOT, Federal Highway Administration – FHWA, and the US Department of Transportation) generating different quality publications.
